Leadership, Life and Theology Institute
June 5 – 10, 2006
Hosted by Solomon’s Porch, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Structure:
The Leadership, Life and Theology Institute is an attempt to find new ways for people to learn from and teach one another.
Our attempt to find a new way to meet and learn is driven by a desire to have new outcomes from our learning.
Emergent being a Friendship requires that we find ways to not only learn from each other but to be connected to one another in meaningful ways. The structure of the Institute is designed to be as personal as possible in an attempt to not only learn information, but to learn from people. This represents a shift away from the content as the primary commodity to life on life being the central benefit. This does not mean that we will not all benefit from what we learn, but it does mean that all that good learning will play a different role in our formation.
To that end the Institute is designed around the presenters skills, desires, and interests.
Offerings:
Each offering will have its own feel and structure. Each Offering will have a Host. Thes Host will at times be the lead presenter, in other situations will be the coordinator or the convener of the offering.
Our hope is that the Host will create their offering so that they can be most effective for person to person interaction. That may well mean that some use a lecture/teaching format while others use discussion. Some may take a field trip while others may do deep “inner work”. Some may require advance preparation while others create the content “on the fly”. There will be a great amount of distinction in the offerings as far as time of the presentation, “take away” value” and intensity.
Updates:
Hosts and Offerings will be regularly updated, so check the Emergent blog for the latest offerings.
Location:
Each Host is responsible for her/his promotional material, establishing the time frame of their meeting, and setting the scope of the conversation. So participants will need to inquire carefully of the details so they can be fully prepared. Solomon’s Porch will provide the primary facility for the offerings but many places around the Twin Cities will be utilized.
Dates:
Offerings will begin Monday, June 5 and continue through Saturday, June 10, 2006 at various times of the day.
Participants will be an important part of the equation. In this system both Hoat and participant are key to creating the desired environment.
Price:
To this end we have established and alacart approach to paying for offerings. Each offering will be priced by the Host at one of three prices, called Units. Each Unit is $25. Offerings will be One, Two or Three units. The number of Units per Offering is at the discretion of the Host. Host are paid half the Unit fee, the other half goes to organizing costs. So Hosts are compensated based on the number of people who register for the their Offering.

Doug--this sounds great. And having had experienced the hospitality of Solomon's Porch first hand, not to mention the graciousness of the Pagitt household, makes this all the more appealing. I'll have a "prophetic throwdown" with Greg and see if maybe we can get out there...
Much love your way--glad you are taking the lead in experimenting with other forms of facilitating growth in the conversation. xox.
