Yes, the Gathering is on for this year. October 9-12, Glorieta New Mexico.
We've been waiting for the roll-out of the new emergentvillage.com site August 1 to open the free registration, but we know that some folks need to start making arrangements.
The event is free of program charge. There is a $35 charge to be involved in the breakfast and lunch communal meals - this is the only way to eat this year, for at this point the dinning hall will not be open. Dinners are eaten at restaurants in Santa Fe, but some people make arrangements through this blog to buy their own dinner food and eat at the conference center.
You will pay for and make your own housing arrangements with Glorieta. There is a choice of apartments and hotel-style rooms. Tell them that you are part of the Emergent Gathering.
This event is a highlight for many of us. It is, in many ways, the heartbeat of Emergent - friendly, conversational, free-form, and meaningful.
If you have any interest in participating I would strongly encourage you to give it a try.
Email Doug Pagitt with any questions.
The Emergent Gathering
October 9-12, 2006
Glorieta Conference Center - Santa Fe, New Mexico
A Gathering of those pursuing advanced conversations and deepening relationships within Emergent Village.
This Gathering is not a “conference” of experts presenting to the waiting masses, rather it is a dialog among those involved with Emergent.
Emergent seeks to be a Generative Friendship that creates spaces and places of new interactions, new hopes, new thinking, and new ways of being in the world.
Feel and Format:
This event is not best compared to a “conference” but rather as a blend of a Family reunion, Art Festival, and “Senior Seminar”. There will be relational connections, creativity and sharing of advanced ideas.
The Gathering is created by and for the participants. A group of people have worked to create an atmosphere and structure in which those involved can make the event work. By participating in the Gathering you are committing not only to attend but to contribute to the creation and refining of the event.
Artist, musicians, thinkers and lovers of life are all invited to create this time into what they desire. Materials will be provided for collective art initiatives. Space will be provided for musicians create. Mountains and trails are ample for outdoor imagination. Rooms will be provided for discussion and idea exchange.
There will be few if any large group meetings. Rooms and schedules will be provided for participants to invite others to hosted discussions on topics of their choice. These discussions will take on the feel of the host, with some being well thought through and others being free-form. A list of conversations is already coming together and will soon be available at www.emergentvillage.com
Guided Conversations:
Each day will offer conversations hosted by participants on a range of topics. Each participant is invited to host a conversation and offerings will be briefly explained each day at the morning “Check-in” meeting.
A Reflection of Normal Life:
Entire communities of faith are invited.
There is a hope that this event will closely reflect normal life and not become some ministry event. We are seeking to find new ways of living integrated lives of family, faith, church and the world.
We are hoping that our time together will closely reflect the regular rhythm of life. Children and families will be in abundance. Food will be eaten. Adults and children will play. God will be worshiped. People will encourage, bless and support one another.
Cost:
There is no program cost for the event. No one is being paid to share their ideas, and everyone is traveling at their own expense so there is no need to charge a program feel. There is a fee for the communal meals and for housing.
Housing:
Housing is handled directly with Glorietta Conference Center, http://www.lifeway.com/lwc/mainpage/0,1701,M%253D200376,00.html
and includes varied styles: Cabins, hotel rooms, and apartments. Please contact Glorieta as soon as you are ready to make plans, this will help you get the housing you desire and assists in planning on their part.
Meals:
Participants are encouraged to eat breakfast and evening meals together by paying $35 per person to a common purse. Participants will be assigned to groups based on housing and will make breakfast and lunch meals together. You will have the opportunity to sign-up for and pay for this meal option at registration. Dinners are normally eaten at local restaurants.
Registration:
In an effort to involve as many people as possible we ask that participants indicate their intention to attend by registering at www.emergentvillage.com. Housing registration through Glorieta at http://www.lifeway.com/lwc/mainpage/0,1701,M%253D200140,00.html
