Hello all,
over the last couple of weeks I have had a bunch of great conversations about the 07 event, even last week at the WALP event.

If I could, I would like to suggest that for location we look to the City model. Find partner organizations and churches in an accessible city and run the event from multiple locations.
I have been in conversation with a number of organizations and denominations and they all like this idea very much. It would allow them to run events with people they know in that city.

There are two cities that I think we should look at; Portland and New York City.
I think NY is a long shot but one of the people from American Bible Society approached me and said that they could make it happen in Manhattan. There are a number of draw backs, but it is worth thinking about.
Portland is a good option, I think. It is accessible and has a good draw to it, especially in late May.

What I would suggest we do from here is put together a three phase planning approach. With each phase having a planning group.
Phase One - July - December, 2005 -
Overall structure of the the event and inviting partners. Deciding on location. This is big picture and vision for the event. I think this group should be 6-9 people. I would like to invite Kelly Bean and Bob Carlton to be part of this group.

Phase Two - September 2005, - May 2006 -
Specific Invitations for participation and structure

Phase Three - March 2006 - May 2007 -
Event Planning mode

There is much more that needs to go into these phases of course, but I think it is a way for us to think of moving on from here.

Would you please let me know you interest in being part of these phases, I think we have the core of these teams now, but need to add more and more people.

I would like to pull the Phase One team together this summer in the Portland area. Jules could we do it at your place? The issue is going to be paying for this planning meeting.

I would of course like to volunteer myself for participation on some phase of the process - I did afterall score highest in 'ideation' on the buckingham/clifton strengths inventory. And I have been 'emerging' since 1999 (only I didn't know it had a name - kinda like how puberty hits you unaware.)

BUT I would also like to commend Krista-Dawn Kimsey, whom I met at WALP. She is an absolute dynamo, particularly around emergent worhsip, and would be an excellent addition to the planning process if she is amenable. Her contact info appears below.

This reminds me of the YLN meeting in SF at some cool place in the Missions District? at some artist building thing. I remember one of the artists who actually lived there, walked through the main space in the middle of a 'meeting'. I also played some LP with a young WL, Josh Fox? Dieter Z was there, and a bunch of cool people. Is that the idea? If so, awesome.

I propose to do one also in Long Beach, CA. There are about 5-6 of us emergent pastors here, all in relationship, of diverse cultural bkds, doing it differently. We want to share our story.

NY is my home town and if you should decide to want to do it there I can help in many ways. I can probably get you a hook up with the Christian Cultural Center the biggest church in NY holds about 5,000+ people its in Brooklyn. Otherwise there are other places and people in NYC that I know I can get. In addition, I know the publishers of the two largest christian newspapers there Love Express and Tristate Voice as I was a former columnist. I would LOVE for EC 07 to be there...in addition, I think you will get LOTS of latinos there since there is a giant interest to enter into discussions on the whole emergent conversation but the price to attend has always been prohibitive. So in a nutshell, if you decide NY, I volunteer to get you some hook ups. My very good friend works for American Bible Society too. NY NY its a hell of a town and a great metaphor for what the emergent conversation should look like...diverse...very different from what it is now. Peace!

Dear Friends,

I would love to be in the conversation for future events, representing the Upper Room. Many of you know that we sponsored the CCC on "The Embracing Church." We envision various ways to branch off from that conversation into some other spiritually forming and missional directions. Also, we can begin to crack into issues of diversity in the conversation.

I'm not sure if this is relevant (with interchangable a's and e's, much like calendar) but i would love to volunteer myself for any and all things musical. Again, i'm not sure if that's a topic of discussion at this point (or will be). I'm the music and arts pastor for a growing church plant in Upstate NY called Artisan
(www.artisanchurch.com) and lead a kickin' funk/jazz outfit called Theophilus (www.theophilusband.com) The Artisan staff has been involved in the emergent deal for some time now and are regularly encouraged that there are others out there dancing in the overlap (not my phrase) along with us. How do I/we get involved in this adventure? i've attached my email and would welcome correspondence :)!
